The AFL Western District Commission is undertaking a review into junior football in the Hampden Football Netball League and Warrnambool and District Football Netball League.
AFL Western District Commission Chairman, Dr Greg Wood, said it had been 14 years since the last review into junior football in the region and with a number of changes introduced in this period it was time to get an accurate view of where the competitions are at.
“We are going to the clubs to get their advice and information around player numbers and other issues specifically impacting junior football.
“There have been many changes in the past few years at a local level, including the player points system, academy programs and the upcoming salary cap implementation.
“We feel now is a good time to look at the current junior structures and look at how we can work with the leagues and clubs to build on the foundations,” Dr Wood said.
Dr Wood said that to ensure everyone is given a chance to have their say the Committee will set aside two days for meetings with individual clubs who wish to make a presentation as part of the review.
“Each club will be offered a meeting with us to present their ideas. One of these meetings will be held in the Terang/Camperdown area and the other in Warrnambool.
“We want every club to have the opportunity to put forward their ideas and talk about structures that work for them, and also any ideas for improvement,” he said.
Dr Wood said the clubs will also be allowed to provide a written submission to the AFL Western District Commission. The submission will cover:
- Player numbers at all levels
- Preferred playing day options for junior football
- Best fit top age level for your club
- Losing juniors to other clubs
- Inducements in junior football
- Player points for clubs
- Coaches at junior level
- Permit agreements
- Any other topic of interest
The Review Committee comprises of Matthew Irving (Chair), Daniel Meade (Deputy Chair), Shane Bell, Clarkson Ray and Gerard Auld.
Dr Wood said the review will be conducted in accordance with AFL Victoria Country Rule 4.7.
