Jonathan Leidig will represent AFL Darling Downs when he plays for South Queensland in Cairns on Saturday.
Leidig is the sole Darling Downs players selected in the South Queensland team that will take on North Queensland in the curtain-raiser to the AFL game between the Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast at Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns on Saturday.
The South Toowoomba star has been training with an extended South Queensland squad for the past month and impressed enough to make the final team of 22.
Leidig though University midfielder and Holman Medal winner Tyhe Clarkson was unlucky not to make the team, which also includes former Coolaroo midfielder Tom Rudolph, who now plays on the Sunshine Coast.
"I've been training pretty well and just doing the trip down every week. I'm happy with how it's going,” Leidig said.
"For me personally, the end goal was to make the final 22. It's a pretty strong team.”
The 20-year-old has been in strong form for the Bombers this season and has been used across the ground.
He is likely to feature in the forward line but could play the role of swingman.
"I'll start up forward and there is a chance I could be thrown back,” Leidig said.
It will not be Leidig's first time playing ahead of an AFL game though as he played in Alice Springs a few years ago in a South Australia representative team.
