AFL Darling Downs today announced the final Under 14 Darling Downs Demons squad to compete at the Under 14 - Girls AFL Queensland State Championships that commence in September on the Sunshine Coast.
It will be just the third year the Darling Downs will compete in the 8-team Championships.
The State Championships are made up of squads of 23 from across Queensland and for the first time Papua New Guinea will contest the carnival. From the 18th to 20th September the Darling Downs will play against both Brisbane South and North, along with the Gold and Sunshine Coast with fellow country rivals Northern Rivers and the North Queensland Kookaburra’s also contesting.
Regional Manager for AFL Queensland for the Darling Downs, Jeff Neumann said the squad is well represented from across the region.
“The balance of our team, is sensational and we are proud to say that our Under 14 Demons team is made up of players from right across the region,” Regional Manager Jeff Neumann said.
“The Chinchilla SUNS for the first time will have a player represent the region at the AFL Queensland State Championships to our back-to-back youth girls premiers Downland’s College with two players in the final team from their grand-final winning Under 17 side.
“The University Cougars boast an impressive 7 players selected in the team.
“Fresh from her best on ground performance in the youth girls Grand-Final, Chloe Cocks (Downland’s College) is a player to watch along with regular club stars in Molly Fraser, Catie Koelmeyer and Gracie Paynter,” Neumann added on players to watch for the Demons.
As well as naming the squad of 23 players, AFL Darling Downs also released the coaching staff who will be looking after the Darling Downs Demons at the State Championships.
Two-time youth girls and State Secondary School Ambassador of the year, Dan Fraser was announced as head coach and will be assisted by Lewis MacIvor (Highfields Lions) and Abdullah Haddad (via University Cougars).
“We are extremely fortunate to have Dan Fraser heading up our program and coming from a teaching background, Dan has the right mix of coach and teacher, for the group of which a majority are still relatively new to Australian Football,” Jeff Neumann said of head coach Dan Fraser.
Congratulations to the 23-players selected in the 2017 AFL Darling Downs Demons Under 14 – Girls squad.
