The competition frontrunners went one nil up inside the first five minutes through Craig Cameron-Smith after Nathan Draz delightfully played him through. The home side equalised at the end of the half only to take the lead with 15 minutes of the game left.
That spurred Barwon on to play some exciting football. Shortly afterwards, the visitors got a penalty which Craig Cameron-Smith smashed home to draw the game level and in the process chalk up his 10th goal of the season.
Liam Foilet then scored two quick goals in succession from set pieces to give the rampant Barwon the win.
On Friday night at Village Park, a returning Robert Armstrong slammed home a brace in his first game of the season to lead Barwon Heads to an upset 3-2 win over the previously third placed Surfside Waves. Paul Komis was the scorer of the other Hammerheads’ goal, while captain Jack Pedler and Alexander Ketchen found the back of the net for the visiting Waves.
Geelong Rangers ascended to a lofty third position following their 5-0 hammering of bottom side FC Leopold at Estuary Reserve on Sunday. Ben Noble scored a single to bring up his 10th goal of the season, while Zac Harry netted a double to bring his season’s tally to nine goals. The other goal scorers for the Dark Blues were veteran Darren Mccallum and Nicholas Hogan.
Second placed Breakwater Eagles kept within striking distance of competition leaders Barwon by virtue of a 3-0 defeat over reigning champions Deakin Ducks at the White Eagle Club on Sunday.
Ben Duthie scored a goal to also bring his season’s tally to 10 goals while Cailen Lee and Jack Wilson also contributed with singles apiece. On a sour note, Breakwater’s Chris Appleford was shown the red card after receiving two cautions.
In the final game of Round 11, Lara United defeated second bottom side Surf Coast 3-1 at the Lara Recreation Reserve. No goalscorers were submitted by either side.
