Downland’s College have one final hurdle between them and the perfect season.
The Taylor Sutton led Gryphon’s have dominated the 2017 Under 17 Girls competition on a Friday night, going through the home and away season undefeated. Downland’s didn’t get to play the Harristown Hawks in Round 2 due to inclement weather. Forward, Taylor Sutton has been impressive for Downland’s and will be a player to watch in the Grand-Final against Harristown.
Other players for the Downland’s Gryphon’s too watch is Alecia Pienaar, Chloe Cocks and Jasmine Lamborn. This trio along with Sutton, have dominated the competition.
For the Harristown Hawks Amber Moon, Jasmine Gray, Adeng Dut and Hayley Gray have had outstanding seasons. The most interesting battle will for Sutton V Moon, with the competitions leading goal-kicker in Sutton coming up against arguably the best defender in Amber Moon. The head to head, ruck contest between Downland’s Alecia Pienaar and Harristown’s Adeng Dut will be a match deciding contest.
The run and carry of the Hawks’ Gray sisters up against the agile Chloe Cocks and Jasmine Lamborn of the Gryphon’s will an exciting and unpredictable match up.
Regional Manager for AFL Queensland, Jeff Neumann said it is an exciting clash between the competitions two best sides.
“Both teams have played a quick moving style of footy and with both sides boasting many players that our only playing Australian Football for the first time, trying to pick a winner is a difficult task,” Jeff Neumann said.
“I have been impressed with the standard of this years competition and we have unearthed some highly talented athletes, with the likes of rookies Chloe Cocks and Adeng Dut along with the impressive improvement of players like Jasmine Lamborn, Taylor Sutton, Hayley Gray, just to name a few.
“The competition doubled in size this season and we are looking forward to a great evening of finals footy between all teams,” Regional Manager Neumann added.
However, it just isn’t the Grand-Final between Downlands Gryphons and the Harristown Hawks that is taking place. Traditional clubs South Toowoomba and University will go head to head in the play off for third, while the Toowoomba Glennie Tigers will come up against the Glennie School in the play off for fifth.

All games are at Rockville Oval and Toowoomba AFC will have full canteen facilities available for the entire evening. Following the Grand-Final, presentation of the competition leading goal-kicker and MVP awards will take place.
