McDonald’s SA Under-18 MVP Harry Petty is aiming to follow his sister Hannah into the world of professional sport after enjoying a strong AFL National Championship campaign.
Petty’s older sibling plays netball with the Adelaide Thunderbirds and has just recently been named captain of Australia’s Under-21 side.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, the Norwood backman said Hannah’s success had only served to strengthen his desire to have his name called in this year’s AFL Draft.
Modelling his game on West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern, Petty was outstanding for the Croweaters when moved to centre half-back by coach Brenton Phillips.
The 17-year-old’s standout performance came against the might of Victoria Metro when, despite being under siege, he played the perfect defensive game against the highly-rated Will Sutherland.
Measuring in at 194cm and 82kg, Petty is focused on putting on weight in the second half of the season while also continuing with the Redlegs.
From the Eyre Peninsula town of Wudinna, Petty relocated to Adelaide when he started boarding at Rostrevor College, where he is now studying Year 12.
