NEWS: Surfside Waves defeat FC Leopold in catch up game to jump into Men’s Div 1 Top Three
BOTTOM side FC Leopold was unfortunate to not come away with any points as they went down 1-0 to Surfside Waves in a Men’s Division 1 Catch-up round fixture at Shell Road Reserve last Friday night.

It was a hard fought David versus Goliath match, but the cellar dwellers from Leopold managed to stand up and take the fight to the home team with great skill and passion. The defensive efforts of FC Leopold were second to none with the Greens thumbing their collective noses at their current bottom placing on the ladder and soaking up the attacking pressure with great endurance.
The debutante club did well to go into the second half with the score locked at 0-0 but a quick break down the wing in the 78th minute saw the home side put in a well worked cross which found Adrian Bond. Not even the heroic efforts of FC Leopold's backline could prevent Bond slotting home his third goal of the season and the game’s decider.
The win lifts the Waves into outright third spot on the ladder, following the completion of Round 10. Meanwhile, FC Leopold remains locked to the wooden spoon position and are still searching for their elusive first win.
With eight rounds remaining of the regular season, Barwon leads the competition on 28 points, four ahead of second placed Breakwater Eagles and 11 ahead of the Waves. Reigning champions Deakin Ducks make up the top four with 16 points.
THERE were no matches played in the Women’s Division 1 competition last weekend, which sees an intriguing two horse race developing atop the elite female’s competition standings.
After 10 rounds, last year’s beaten Grand Finalists Drysdale SC narrowly leads the competition on 26 points, just two ahead of reigning champions and arch rivals Deakin Ducks.
Surf Coast FC, which was promoted from Division 2 at the end of last year, is in third position with 21 points while Barwon SC occupies 4th spot on the ladder with 18 points.
Like with the Men’s division, there are just eight rounds remaining in the regular season.
