MURCHISON-TOOLAMBA V AVENEL
The continued improvement of Murchison-Toolamba will be put to the test again today when it confronts the in-form Avenel.
The Swans have been outstanding in the past two months and they are shooting for eighth straight win.
Coach Don Stirling says the team has really done well following the inter-league break.
“We had six or seven guys that played inter-league this year and that actually helped ignite our season. The guys that played really enjoyed playing with some of the best players in the league,” he said.
Stirling says today’s contest will be a huge challenge for his team against a team that pushed the reigning premier last week.
“They have been really good of late and we will need to play our best football to keep our winning ways going,” he said.
Some of the players leading the way for the Grasshoppers over the past couple of months have been Jonathon Cooper, Tom Kerrins, Luke Jones, Luke Cecchin, Hayden Ewart and Shannon Tibos.
Stirling says the likes of Mitchell Thomas, Benjamin Quick, Paul Arandt, Scott Tyers and Mathew Hurley have been pivotal in helping the Swans get their season back on track.
Tip: Avenel.
LANCASTER V STANHOPE
The challenges keep coming for Lancaster when it plays host to Stanhope today.
The Wombats are in the middle of matches against the contending teams and they will be desperate to arrest the two closes losses to last year’s grand finalists with a victory.
There is some extra motivation for the group with coach, Nick Bertoli lining up for his 250th senior game – around 80 of those with Lancaster.
Michael Hill, Andrew Pettigrove, Tannar Cerrone, Jack Donnell and Logan Demasi have been some of the shining lights in the past two defeats.
They will need to play well to combat the Lions who have been well led by Adam Auld, Thomas Hepburn, Alex O'Reilly, Craig Emmett, Nathan O'Reilly and Alec Young.
Tip: Stanhope.
GIRGARRE V MERRIGUM
Girgarre has been playing some improved football without getting the wins.
In the past fortnight it has pushed two of the premiership contenders only to fall short.
Avenel coach Don Stirling was impressed with the Roos.
“They have got good structures and were very hard to play against,” he said.
If the Roos can stick to the game plan then it is a big chance of upsetting the Bulldogs’ charge towards the finals.
Ashley Hughes, Jake Hyland, Jayden Tucker, Shannon Tucker, Jackson Neville and Shaun Doolan will be pivotal to the Kangaroos’ chances of winning today.
Geoff Connally, Christian Barnett, Michael Donaldson, Thomas Cooper, Rohan Hearn and Jack Sinclair have been some of shining lights for the Bulldogs during the recent purple patch.
Tip: Girgarre.
RUSHWORTH V VIOLET TOWN
Rushworth will be desperate for a victory, having not won a game since the end of April.
The Tigers have been hit by some key injuries this season and coach, Jason Hucker has been leading by example.
Others to be playing well of late have been Michael Telford, Shayne Lynch, Jeremy Lambden, Jacob Perry and Billy Wall.
Violet Town know this is a game it must focus on getting the four points and if an opportunity arises to build its percentage then it must go for it.
Lochlan Morrison, Thomas Madden, Patrick Horsburgh, Ashley Hobbs, Greg Dyer and Tim Ross were all key contributors last week and they will again be important as the Lions push for a top two finish.
Tip: Violet Town.
UNDERA V TALLYGAROOPNA
Undera has been struggling as it continues to re-build and today will be a tough ask for the young Lions.
Nicholas McAuliffe, Nathan Frizzell, Aaron Cordy, Jake Russ, Keelan Mitchell and Steven Valentin have been some of the players trying really hard.
Timothy Karolidis, Douglas Wren, Jai Utiger, Tyson Sidebottom, Austin Tricarico and Cameron Holdsworth were the players that led the big win for Tallygaroopna.
The Redlegs’ will be chasing another percentage boosting win as they attempt to finish in the top two.
Tip: Tallygaroopna.
