2008 WRFL Unsung Hero Award
Every footy club has people who turn up week in week out and give their time and energy freely to help the club tick over. Some get involved because their children are playing and some just because that’s the way they are. The WRFL wants to recognise these individuals through the Unsung Hero Award. Every nominee who appears in the paper will receive a night out at the Yarraville Club- the meeting place of the WRFL. The 2008 Unsung hero will be announced on Division 1 Grand Final Day at the lunch and will receive a 48 cm LCD TV valued at $500 from Peter McKnight Retravision of Hoppers Crossing.
This week’s nomination is Rod Ford from the Williamstown Juniors.
Rod took on coaching of the under 9’s in 2005 and has coached the same team for 4 yrs since. He joined the committee that same year and, in addition to his weekly coaching commitments, which saw a premiership last year, Rod has:
- Established the policy document for the club
- Established and continues to maintain our club web-site
- Overseen the restructuring of the organisational chart and in particular the footy department
- Co-ordinates the recruiting & appointment of high caliber coaches and acts as mentor/facilitator to them
- Co-ordinates our annual trivia night which raises approx $20k for the club each year
- Secures sponsorship for the club
- Developed apparel items for the club which has given the club an ïdentity in the west.
Congratulations to Rod he could be the 2008 WRFL Unsung Hero. Nominate a deserving person from your club now, e-mail
