McDonald’s SA U18 coach Brenton Phillips has made four changes in preparation for the clash against the Allies at Adelaide Oval on Saturday morning.
Set to play their only home game for the AFL U18 National Championships, the Croweaters have boosted their pace with the inclusion of Glenelg’s Liam Denton while North Adelaide forward Bryce Denham has also been listed at full forward.
Denham, who measures in at 194cm and 89kg, can also be thrown into the ruck to assist McDonald’s SA U18 captain Callum Coleman-Jones while Sturt’s Brandon Zerk-Thatcher is another inclusion to assist at the stoppages.
Rooster Hugo Barry (190cm and 81kg) has also been listed on the interchange bench, offering size and flexibility to the line-up.
Speaking on SANFL Radio, Phillips said it was a tough call to leave out Norwood’s Lachlan Pascoe and Mitchell Coles, West’s Jakob Heitmann and Glenelg’s Ruben Flinn, who will play for the McDonald’s SA U17 Futures team on Friday night.
Phillips also chats about SA’s heart-breaking one-point loss to WA last Saturday, in which the Sandgropers won on the Golden Point rule once the final siren had sounded with scores locked on 10.13 (73).
Entry is free to the McDonald’s SA U18 clash v the Allies, with the rivals made up of the best players from Tasmania, NSW/ACT, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
After the contest, the SA side will undertake a well-earned recovery session at the Next Generation Gym.
