The South Burnett Saints women responded to a big loss in the best way possible on Saturday, knocking off Dalby 26-21 on their home turf.
The Saints were given a lesson in football by competition heavyweights Toowoomba Tigers a week earlier, but travelled to Dalby with a point to prove.
And prove it they did, bursting out of the blocks to lead 25-16 at half time before holding on under a second-half Dalby onslaught for their second win of the season.
Ash Irvine was dominant kicking all four of the Saints' goals.
Saints captain Natalie Fenton was proud of how her side handled themselves as Dalby continued to apply the pressure.
"We took it to them and fought hard, it was such an intense game and the pressure the girls put on was unrelenting,” Fenton said.
"They were determined to try and turn it around but we managed to hold them off. The final siren came so quickly in that last quarter, I almost didn't believe it.”
Fenton said the team took confidence from their early season efforts against the Swans, but did not expect to leave Dalby with the four competition points.
"I don't know that we were confidence we could win, but we knew we wouldn't be far off and were determined to give it everything we had,” she said.
"When we scored the first goal it was like, 'Oh wow, okay we can do this' and we just went from there.”
With new players joining each week, Fenton said the enthusiasm amongst the playing group had never been higher.
"We've got people coming from all sorts of places to see what's going on,” she said.
"Our girls are out there at schools or in gyms and getting the word out. We're always approaching people and asking them to join because we're all enjoying playing so much.”
The Saints women will look to continue their good form at home to University this weekend.
