Round 9 WOMEN- Kelly Wilson (Mackay Meteorettes)

After 10 games in 2008, Kelly Wilson of the Mackay Meteorettes is undeniably the player most feared by coaches within the League.  She has the ability to hit baskets from any range, over the top of any opposition and on any surface- home or away.  She did just that in Round 9, when the highest score within the League in 2008 was posted- 50pts @ 74% including 5 of 7 three-pointers, 14rbs, 2asts, 3stls.  In doing so, Wilson collects the Player of the Week Award for the 3rd time this season and a reputation within the League as a sharp shooter.  Her averages have been given a massive boost with these numbers and she now tops the League for her offensive talent with 28.8ppg, 6.7rpg, 4.3apg, just ahead of Cairns Dolphin and Australian Opal Rohanee Cox.  With the team on an 8-game winning streak that doesn’t look to end in the near future, and Wilson seemingly getting better the longer the season runs, basketball fans in Queensland are staring down the barrel of an explosive finals series in August.

Elsewhere, full praise to Coach Wrobel and the Townsville Flames who remain as the only undefeated team in the League after holding off the Logan Thunder (there is no 1 outstanding player here, more a team of them); Bianca Abbott of the Gliders put on a 2 game 45pts, 18rbs, 15asts, 7stls in central-Queensland; and Rhonda Price of the Mountaineers with another huge double-double (17pts, 22rbs, 2asts, 4blks).
