TALLYGAROOPNA v VIOLET TOWN
Tallygaroopna and Violet Town are going to find out a fair bit about themselves at around 4.30 this afternoon.
Both teams are flying at the moment, with the Lions in second with 28 points and the Redlegs’ a further four points adrift.
This is one of those eight point games as teams jostle for the all-important top two finish and double chance at season’s end.
Austin Tricarico and Jayedon Hexter were the stars of the win while Jai Simmie did most of the damage up forward with a seven goal haul.
Others to contribute in the win included Maxwell Thompson, Timothy Belford and ruckman Timothy Karolidis.
Violet Town has been in outstanding form and coach Sean Horsburgh would have been impressed by the ruthlessness of Tallygaroopna last weekend.
He knows his team will need to be at their best to overcome Tallygaroopna on its home track today.
Ruckman Jon Woodcock will be pivotal to the visitors’ hopes and if he can get first use in the middle and feed the likes of Nat Trotter and Samuel Poole then they can get the supply to Rob Staff and Chris McKay to kick a winning total.
Tip: Violet Town.
GIRGARRE v MURCHISON-TOOLAMBA
This is a massive game in the context of both these teams season.
If they want play finals then they must secure the four points.
Girgarre would have been disappointed by its failure to not defeat Lancaster last weekend.
Coach Shannon Tucker knows his troops probably missed an opportunity against the Wombats and he knows they can’t do that today against the Grasshoppers.
He will look to the likes of Luke Whykes, Nicholas Varcoe, Ashley Kirchhofer, Jayden Tucker, Shaun Ross and Matt Bartlett to continue their good form to overcome a Murchison-Toolamba outfit that is chasing a fourth straight win.
The Grasshoppers have been up and about over the last month and know this is a must win in their quest to figure in the finals.
Luke Armstrong, James Milne, Ashton Cashion, Brayden Cecchin, Nathan Carroll and Luke Jones will be out back up the character building win of last weekend with another today.
Tip: Girgarre.
RUSHWORTH v NAGAMBIE
Rushworth will be desperate to get its season back on track after a string of defeats in the past month.
After starting the season in a blaze of glory, the Tigers have dropped out of the top six and today face a huge challenge against the reigning premier.
Jacob Perry, Shayne Lynch, Jayden Smith, Jarvis Waasdorp, Jeremy Lambden and Jason Hucker will all need to play well, while the Tigers will hope to regain key forward Rob Osborne who missed last week’s narrow loss through injury.
Nagambie was ruthless in disposing of Undera and leading the way was Mathew Waterson with a 10 goal haul.
The returning Michael Shiels was outstanding as was Ben Hutton, Nathan Fothergill, Brayden Biggs and Martin Shadbolt.
Tip: Nagambie.
UNDERA v AVENEL
Avenel will be looking to continue its return to form after a slow start to the season when it travels to take on Undera.
The Lions have struggled over the past 5-6 weeks and it will take a big effort from the likes of Danni Heazlewood, Nicholas McAuliffe, Nathan Frizzell, Aaron Cordy, Tanner Hunter and Mitchell Turner to give the home team any chance against the Swans.
Michael Morgan, Chris Burton, Donald Stirling, Max Lawrence, Paul Arandt, Nicholas Goodwin were all major contributors in the big over neighbour Longwood.
They will be looking to make it three wins in a row and hopefully move a step closer to a place in the top six with another four points.
Tip: Avenel.
LONGWOOD v STANHOPE
Longwood faces another massive challenge after it suffered a 200 point plus loss.
Coach Nick Brown and his staff face a big task in getting the boys up for the game against another of the league’s powerhouse clubs.
Anthony Tautala, Braydon Kearns, Henry Peni, David D'Elia, Shaun Bridges and Nathan Watson were some of the guys who never gave up last weekend and they will try to inspire their team-mates to come along for the challenge.
Stanhope will be looking to ensure it sticks to the game plan and players don’t get ahead of themselves.
Coach “Hooda” Gray will see this as a real opportunity to boost their percentage and the likes of Jack Exell, Michael Coad, Tom Hepburn, Jake Exell, Tommy Durward and Colin Harvey will be crucial in that quest.
Tip: Stanhope.
