After a dicey weather forecast, AFLO Round Two saw seven games of men’s and women’s football at Humber South, Margaret Green Reserve and in the nation’s capital at Manotick Polo Club.
- For the men’s competition, there are five teams undefeated with one win – Swans, Eagles, Dingos, Rebels and Wildcats. The Hawks round out the Top Six with their 1-1 record. The Blues, Demons and Roos are yet to get on the winner’s list in 2017.
- For the women’s competition, the Roos are undefeated followed by the Demons and Blues both with a 1-1 record and the Wildcats in fourth.

MEN’S COMPETITION
Broadview Hawks 5.1 (31) lost to Toronto Rebels 11.7 (73)
The Rebels have handed the Hawks a 42-pt loss at Humber South on Saturday. The Hawks went into quarter time with a slim one-goal lead, but that was soon eroded as the Rebels piled on 4.2 to 1.0 in the second quarter. The Hawks were still in it at three-quarter time trailing by 22-points, but another 4.2 to 1.0 sealed the win for the Rebels. The Hawks’ Twin Towers in Dullard and Shuttleworth were kept in check, but small forward Nathan Cragg stepped up with three majors. Hawks pair Luke Bell and Scott Emberley got plenty of it. For the Rebels, Robert Tersigni booted 3 goals and Kevin Duffy 2, while Josh Hegarty stood firm across halfback. Scores can be found here.
Grand River 5.3 (33) lost to Toronto Dingos 15.10 (100)
The Dingos kick started their 2017 campaign with a significant 67-pt win against Guelph at Margaret Greene Reserve. The Dingos came out of the blocks and kicked the first four goals and built up a 34-point lead by the main break. The third quarter was tight, but a five goal to one final quarter locked up the Dingos first win of the year. For the Dingos Geoff Hansen (5) and Thomas Santibanez-Espinosa (4) did the damage up forward with nine goals between them. Australian midfield pair Steve Speers and Justin Davis controlled the middle and were in the best. For Guelph Andrew Matthews bagged three goals and Aiden Mcquoid was awarded their best. High Park Demons 1.3 (9) lost to Toronto Eagles 30.17 (197)
The Eagles recorded a 188-pt win over the Demons on Saturday. The win was set up with an 8.1 to 0.0 first quarter. The Eagles kicked 7.7 and 8 goals in the remaining three quarters. For the Eagles Neil Casey kicked eight goals in a best on ground effort, followed by Aaron Falcioni with five. For the Demons Dale Simnett kicked their only goal. Scores can be found here.
Ottawa Swans 13.16 (94) def Etobicoke Roos 0.3 (3)
The Swans were big winners by 91-pts over a depleted Roos team in Ottawa on Saturday. The Roos traveled with a 15-man squad – including 11 new players - and weren’t able to stop the numbers of the Swans who were missing key midfielder Nathan Strom. For the Swans Morgan Whyte kicked four goals and Kyle Graham bagged three. For the Roos, Malcolm Leung, Phillip Dasilva and Thomas Bialynicki battled hard all day. Scores can be found here.
Hamilton Wildcats 11.11 (77) def Central Blues 6.7 (43)
The Wildcats chalked up their first win in 2017 by defeating the Blues by 34-pts in Hamilton. The Wildcats held a short 5-pt lead at half time, but blew the match open with a dominant second half of 7.3 to 2.4. The goals were shared among the Wildcats with Jed Wheatley, Justin Kitney and Thomas Lally with two goals each. For the Blues, Wayde Mills and Daniel Mccullough booted two each. WOMEN’S COMPETITION
Hamilton Wildcats 3.6 (24) def by the Central Blues 5.8 (38)
After trailing by 4-pts at quarter time, and going scoreless, the Blues turned it on and were able to record a 14-pt victory in Hamilton. The third quarter proved match winning for the Blues as they held the Wildcats scoreless, while adding 1.2. Scores can be found here.
Etobicoke Roos 11.17 (83) def High Park Demons 3.4 (22)
The inaccurate Roos defeated the Demons by 61-pts on Saturday. The final margin could have been greater, had they converted their 17 behinds into goals. What started out as a tight tussle, ended in a commanding win for the Roos with 17 scoring shots to 3 after half time. For the Roos Christina Tyrcz kicked four gaols and Lara Hilmi booted three. Nicola Kirwan was also named in the best. For the Demons, Jacqueline Zonneville, Gobi Sriranganathan, Teresa Moore each kicked singles. Scores can be found here.
