NEWS: GRFC Men’s Division 1 - Round 7 Roundup

ALL FIVE matches in Round 7 of the GRFC Men’s Division 1 competition last weekend saw the home team record wins over their visiting opposition. The most notable of these was top side Barwon’s 9-0 thumping of last season’s losing Grand Finalists Geelong Rangers at Grovedale Reserve on Friday night.

Second placed Breakwater Eagles have kept pace with the leaders Barwon, following a narrow 2-0 win over bottom side FC Leopold at the White Eagle Club on Sunday. Chris Appleford and Jack Wilson were the two goalscorers for the high flying Eagles.

The other Sunday match-up saw Drysdale defeat second last placed Barwon Heads 3-0 to jump into 5th spot on the standings, its highest position so far this campaign. Nick Hopper bagged a double, while Danny Graham contributed with a single.

On Friday night, 4th placed Surfside Waves defeated 7th placed Surf Coast 5-3 in a goal feast at Shell Road Reserve. Niccolo Bassi secured a hat-trick, while Adrian Vodopic netted his second goal in as many matches. Isaiah Mujica was the scorer of Surfside’s other goal. Surf Coast had three individual goalscorers in Jay Christou, Prianto Sidauruk and Jack Duffy.

Finally, also on Friday night, Deakin Ducks cemented its top three placing with a comfortable 4-1 triumph over Lara United at Waurn Ponds. Anjelo Ojwiya scored his 6th goal of the season to jump into second spot on the Golden Boot chart. He was ably supported by Ipyana Killimbe, Nick Musarra and Nick Verikios who all scored singles. Lara’s consolation goal came from Gavin Zahra.

There will be no games this weekend due to the Queen’s Birthday holiday.
