PS4 NPL Women's Round 10 Wrap
Canberra Olympic 0 def. by Canberra FC 8 (Chantel Jones 29’, 58’, Grace Gill 41’, 74’, Marcia Wallis 44’, 52’, 62’, Diarna Genovesi 87’)
A dominant performance from Canberra FC over their neighbours saw them jump right back up to second spot on the table this weekend.
With Olympic still pushing for their first win of the season they came out strongly, looking to push Canberra FC back, but the tide soon began to turn as the visitors put their foot down.
After a scratchy opening period, Chantel Jones opened the scoring after 29 minutes to set the tone for Canberra FC. Chances were missed but Grace Gill got herself on the board four minutes before the break and Marcia Wallis added a goal on the cusp of half-time as they threatened to run away with the match.
However, the second half turned out much the same, as Wallis’ goal just seven minutes in extended the lead to four as Canberra FC hit their straps and really forced the issue against the Olympic outfit.
Jones completed her brace six minutes later and Wallis nabbed her hat-trick four minutes further down the track, and at six goals to nil with 30 minutes remaining things were looking dim for Olympic. The visitors added two more goals through Gill and Diarna Genovesi as time wore on to complete a victory far more emphatic than their one-goal win the last time these sides met.
Monaro Panthers 0 def. by Belconnen United 11 (Jasmine Maguire 9’, 59’, 74’, Michaela Day 10’, Chloe Callaghan 33’, 38’, Maddy Whittall 33’, Ellie Raymond 53’, 64’, Karen Clarke 81’, 89’)
Belconnen United kept it rolling on Sunday with a dominant 11-0 win against Monaro Panthers at Riverside Stadium. Jasmine Maguire scored her first after just nine minutes to open the scoring as the Blue Devils started strongly, and Michaela Day netted just one minute later. The Panthers pushed back and looked to create chances of their own but were unable to break down a stoic Belconnen defence, and Chloe Callaghan and Maddy Whittall both punished them as they scored twice in the 33rd minute, before Callaghan added another just five minutes later. That capped off the first-half scoring and left the home side reeling as they entered the break on the wrong end of a 5-0 deficit.
The pressure continued from the get-go in the second stanza, as Ellie Raymond scored just eight minutes in, before Maguire secured a brace six minutes following. Raymond added her second after another five minutes, and United stretched their lead to 8-0 with 25 minutes still to play. It was another ten before Maguire completed her hat-trick with a tidy finish, before Karen Clarke added two goals inside the final ten minutes to complete the rout.
Tuggeranong United 1 (Meg McLaughlin 68’) def. by Woden-Weston FC 3 (Jade Bernet 8’, Lotta Raap 21’, Laura Vandenbroucke 67’)
Woden-Weston kept touch with the Top Four on Sunday thanks to a commanding win over Tuggeranong United.

Canberra United Academy 1 (Jasmine Genovesi 16’)def. by Gungahlin United 4 (Ashleigh Palombi 57’, 28’, Brittany Palombi 78’, Alex Lawrence 85’)
The Canberra United Academy slumped after last week’s big win, as they went down to Gungahlin United 4-1 at Hawker yesterday.
In a physical encounter the Academy started strongly and Jasmine Genovesi gave the home side the lead after just sixteen minutes with a neat finish past the goalkeeper.
The visitors responded strongly though and would not be behind for long, as Ashleigh Palombi struck back 12 minutes later with a fine goal of her own to level the match and the two sides entered the break locked at 1-1.
United came out of the break as the better side, and they quickly made their experience and upper hand count as Ashlrigh Palombi scored once more to put them in the lead.
From there it was all Gungahlin, the visitors pushing ahead to create more chances as they rode their momentum. Brittany Palombi doubled the lead with twelve minutes to go in the match and all but shut the gate, but Alex Lawrence definitely sealed the deal as she finished off a good move on the counter with just five minutes remaining.
