NEWS: GRFC Round 6 Round-Up (Men’s/Women’s Division One)

Barwon travelled to Ocean Grove last Friday night to take on Surfside Waves and managed to come away with a solid 3-1 win to maintain top spot on the ladder. Ben Hubbard, Sean Mahon and Adam Leather were the goalscorers for the Grovedale outfit, while Adrian Vodopic was the lone scorer for the home side.
Second placed Breakwater Eagles hosted Lara United at the White Eagle Club on Sunday and held on to a narrow 2-1 win. James Cogan hit the back of the net for the impressive United side, who have done well in their first season in the elite division. The goalscorers for Breakwater were not submitted.
In other games, Drysdale smashed debutante club FC Leopold at Estuary Reserve, Deakin Ducks did the same to Rangers by running out emphatic 7-1 victors at Myers Reserve, while Surf Coast and Barwon Heads fought out an entertaining 3-3 draw.
IN GRFC Women’s Division One, Drysdale maintained its lofty position at the top of the league ladder by dispatching Surfsied Waves 2-1 at Shell Road Reserve last Friday evening. Grace Cotter scored the Waves’ solitary goal, while the goalscorers for Drysdale were unfortunately not submitted.
Second placed Deakin Ducks cemented their spot in the top two with a classy 5-0 drubbing of the hapless Barwon at Grovedale Reserve on Saturday. Hannah Gordon was the star of the show with a hat-trick, while Imogen Pratt and Sarah Fry both chipped in with singles for the high flying Duckettes.
In other Division One matches, Surf Coast annihilated bottom side Geelong SC 7-1, while Kardinia College maintained its spot in the top four with a valuable 2-1 win over second bottom Barwon Heads at the Kardinia International College in Bell Post Hill.
