Toowoomba City had to wait years for a shot at redemption and took its chance in the AFL Darling Downs men's representative game at Rockville Park on Saturday.
The City versus Country rep game had not been played since 2013, with Country taking out the past two contests.
But City prevailed 15.13 (103) to 9.12 (66) this time around.
City held narrow leads after the first and second quarters before kicking away with six goals to two in the third quarter.
John Leidig and Carl Stevenson each kicked four goals in the win, while Michael O'Donoghue slotted three.
"It was a great result. It was a good, high standard of footy," said City midfielder and AFL Queensland regional manager Jeff Neumann.
"It was good for Toowoomba City to get the victory and to play in that standard of game is good for any player."
Players from both teams are now in contention for selection in the South Queensland that will play North Queensland as a curtain-raiser to the Western Bulldogs versus Gold Coast Suns AFL match at Cairns on July 22.
The day also featured a QAFL match between Western Magpies and Surfers Paradise, and started with the women's City versus Country match.
It was a double success for City as the women's team won 13.4 (82) to 7.4 (46).
Jayde Struhs kicked five goals for City while Jess Gilbey nailed three on her way to being named best on ground.
