Inspired Hawks Find That Next Level

Inspired by a special night of fundraising for Aussie Clubfoot Kids and Miraclefeet, the Noel Jones Ringwood Hawks showed exactly what they are capable of with a commanding win over the highly fancied Waverley Falcons in front of a massive crowd on Saturday night.

This game just didn’t start, it exploded, with both teams playing a fast and aggressive brand of basketball. The physicality of both teams made for a great spectacle, but the Hawks through Jacob Gibson (18 points) and a revitalized Matt Snowball (13 points and 11 assists) led by 5 points at quarter time.

Nathan Truman caught fire for Ringwood early in the second quarter, nailing three straight three pointers and the Falcons looked like a team under pressure. Stefan Osborne (12 points and 7 assists) nailed another one and the Hawks took a grip on the game. At the half time break, it was the Hawks by 13 points.

The Falcons tried to make some adjustments early in the third quarter, but Matt Fennell (17 points), Shaun Clarke and Trevor Latham answered with interest and the Hawks lead edged over 20. The Falcons were unable to challenge again, with the Hawks finishing it off strongly with a 24 point win. Impressively, the Hawks won every quarter and have finally shown themselves to be again one of the teams to beat come play-off time.

“We scored well, but it was good that we made dramatic improvements defensively tonight.” said Hawks guard Stefan Osborne.

“There was more talking and a greater focus on guarding our own man but we also had a good night offensively.”

Along with the important win, the Hawks were able to raise $1400.00 for “Miraclefeet”, a charity that provides treatment for kids with Clubfoot that would otherwise just be living in constant pain.

Next week, before the BigV competition takes a break over the Queen's Birthday weekend, the Hawks travel to Werribee’s Eagle Stadium on Sunday at 3pm for another interesting game. The Devils have shown themselves to be dangerous, beating some top teams, but have also have had losses to team near the bottom.

RINGWOOD HAWKS 108 (Gibson 18, Fennell 17, Truman 17, Snowball 13, Osborne 12, Clarke 10, McCahey 8) defeated WAVERLEY FALCONS 84 (Simmons 21, Beasley 20) tt the Rings. Crowd Sell Out.
