Ryan Devine’s week has just got even better.
After playing in his first win last Saturday against the Shepparton Swans he was announced as the latest rising star nominee of the league on Monday night.
The 18-year-old says what would even make the week sweeter is if his beloved Cats can win today against arch rival Shepparton United.
“We played them in a practice match and beat them, so we know we are capable of beating them,” he said.
“To do that though, we will need stay focused and have 21 contributors like we did in the win against the Shepparton Swans.”
Having graduated from the under 18 competition, Devine says he is still learning the craft of being a ruckman.
Like most youngsters, he is still growing and as we know big men take some time to develop and hit their peak.
“For me my goal is to probably hold down my spot, keep learning and improving with every game I get,” he said.
The soon to be 19-year-old says he has faced different type of ruckmen in the opening four games of his career, with Kane Morris and Tim Ewart proving very hard to combat for different reasons.
His says playing in the same team as his brother Lachie is even more special and Ryan says he has been given him some simple advice on how to tackle the challenge of senior football.
But what made his debut even more special in round one was playing with his good friend Kal Sanders who he grew up with while living next door to each other as kids.
