Under 8 Black by Eddy Mitchell (Coach)
All the boys where on their toes and ready to impress their mums for Mother's Day. The boys were also all happy to see Alex back in the side after a couple of weeks off, with some great team play around the packs and in front of goals he didn't disappoint. Cody's run and selling of candy was great whilst Connors attack on the ball was first class. Xavier spin and a blind turn from a centre break showed signs of his idol Cyril Rioli. Jack, Oscar and Iggy all played well in the ruck, with Iggy teaming up with Alex and Zac M for a great team goal.
Like a good sponge cake, Ollie rose to the occasion and played great last quarter.
Once again great team effort with improvement week on week.
Goals: Zac M 3, Connor, Coby, Cody, Zac C, Iggy.
Best: Iggy, Zac M, Connor, Cody.
Medal winner: Alex.
Under 8 Yellow by Craig Love (Coach)
Today we played Montrose Red, a strong side with some really talented players. The Yellow team boys played a terrific game with some great work in defence from Preston, Blake and Declan. Thomas took a big knock to ribs but managed to play out the rest of the game in a bit of pain – well done Thomas! It was hard to single out one player for the Two Brothers award voucher, as every one of the boys played well and made a great contribution to the game. This week’s award went to Billy Love – well done Billy, and well don’t to the entire Yellow team. Go Tigers!

Cold Mother’s day morning saw the young Tiger cubs take on Wantirna South at their home ground. Boys opened the account early with 2 very quick goals. All the boys played their positions well today and it showed on the scoreboard. We saw some early marks to Lewis resulting in a couple of goals and some great play around the packs by Archer, Jett, Tarran, Morgan and Cooper. Best on field today was awarded to Cooper for some outstanding ruck roving. Harley was our next best always presenting and looking for his teammates. Was a great team effort.
Special mention to our Mitcham mums who so proudly supported the boys today on their special day and for singing the club song with the team at the end of the game. We were lucky enough to capture a quick video of this, which is going straight to the poolroom.

The U9 Yellow team took on Lilydale this round. It was close start to the game as our boys were a little slow off the mark this week, but when we started to run and use the ball, the goals started to pile on. The boys used each other well through the middle of the ground and when clearing from centre bounces. The handballs, shepherding, playing in front came from all over the ground to ensure we were saving goals and creating them. Our goal scorers this week were Oscar, Noah, Daniel, James, Charlie Wilson, Josh, Charlie Cruse. Thomas, Henry, Will, Ryan, Lorenz and Jarvie all had crack at a goal, but with their great determination they saved many goals for their team. Our award winners of the Two Brothers Cafe certificates with great games were, James Watt, Thomas Woodhead and our Captain this week Lorenz Klinger-Horsburgh. The Mitcham Football Club Player of the game medal this week went to Charlie Wilson. He played a great game today and when he cleared the ball from the centre, handballed to his running team a goal was created for his team. Well-played Charlie. It was a great game by all, with everyone playing a part and getting involved. Go Tigers!!

Mitcham black played against Scoresby on a foggy Mother's Day, led by two of our most skillful players Gab and Dec. Both captains made me proud giving 100%. The team started slowly with Scoresby getting the first goal. The second quarter saw us dominate most of the quarter. In a close game where we controlled everything but the score saw the boys finish on top for their mums. Great games from Charlie, Pat, Liam, Archie and Jesse.
Looking forward to playing with a full team.

For our first game on our home deck we took on a rampaging Vermont team. We welcomed them to the jungle with a great first quarter that was played entirely in our forward half. Our pressure and fierceness at the contest was telling. However we couldn't put our dominance on the scoreboard and lost our shape as our forward line became more and more crowded as everyone went kick chasing. Vermont drew first blood with a great running goal in the second but we had maintained our pressure, which was pleasing. After our mums showed us how to kick at halftime in the time honored and highly anticipated longest kicking competition, which was won by Karen (Jacksons mum), we came out and bossed the second half with discipline, ferocity, hard running and skill. We answered on the scoreboard in the third quarter and ran the game out in the last. Every player contributed and we showed what a good team we are becoming. Well-done guys and thanks to the mums for getting involved.
Under 10 Girls by Darren Clark (Coach)
Today we played Norwood at Norwood. What a difference a week makes, the girls all played exceptionally well and I found it hard to find a player to give my award to. We started a little slow but after the first quarter speech they all lifted and enjoyed the game as much as the parents did. The umpiring made for a well-played flowing game with plenty of kicks and goals going to both teams. A great effort and we will look forward to having Tasia Clark back in the team next week. Well-done Tigers!
Encouragement award goes to Heidi McHutchon

Today the Under 11’s played their fifth round match against Norwood at Koonung Reserve. It was a tough and hard fought game, with both sides fighting for the lead at quarter time, the second and third quarters were also a very even tussle with the scoreboard seesawing the whole time. Finally the Tigers switched on in the last quarter however it didn’t show on the scoreboard. Hopefully next week we welcome back Samuel and Luke F for the game against Blackburn.
Goals: Aiden, Hudson & Ryan O
Best Players: Ryan M, Lachie, Hudson and Etha
Final Score: Mitcham 3.9.27 d Norwood 2.3.15.

Mothers day clash at Koonung v The Basin was tough with our opponent's getting the upper hand on the scoreboard after 3 quarters. Smart footy in the 4th with our halfbacks and onballers opening up their wall by taking the game on with run and carry. A 3 goal last quarter ensured a nail biting 2point win. Happy mothers day to all Mitcham jfc mums.
Best. Zac.....Xavier.....Sam......Ashton
Final Score: Mitcham 5.4.34 d The Basin 4.7.31

Disappointing not to get the win today. Glen Waverley Hawks seem to want the ball a bit more than us today and the large oval didn't seem to suit our style of play. Having said this, there were definitely some good patches of play, and to really only play one quarter of good footy as a team, to only go down by 20 points isn't a huge loss. I think its important to remember that we have started the season very strong with 4 wins, and now 1 loss, so getting beaten today means we will reset this week at training and go into next weeks game with confidence. Unfortunately we didn’t get that win for Damon. Damon celebrated his 50 game milestone today. Damon has improved immensely over the years, and has turned into the division’s dominant ruckman. His ability to ruck and run all day really is a pleasure to watch each week. Additionally Damo's ruck work is definitely one of the reasons why we have started the seasons so well. Congratulations Damon on wonderful 50 games. Goal kickers JP 1, James 1.
Final Score: Glen Waverley Hawks 5.6.36 d Mitcham 2.4.16.

The U14's hosted Donvale at Koonung Reserve. We were nearly back to full strength with some big inclusions of captain Pat and vice captain Ethan Wu. It was a close fought game all day with both teams leading throughout the day. Outstanding games at centre half forward by Dom Howell, 8 goals, and Ethan Wu in the middle enabled the Tigers to hang on to a well-deserved and timely victory. Now playing in "C" grade after being regraded during the week I hope we can keep up the completive spirit, keep learning from our mistakes and continue to improve.
Best: Dom, Ethan Wu, Will Drake, Pat, Adlai, Luke Doidge
Goals: Dom-8, Harry 1
Final Score: Mitcham 9.6.60 d Donvale 7.11.53

The under 14 girls took on Upwey/Tecoma at Walker Park. While it was hard to tell the two tiger teams apart due to the similar colours it was a close game for three and half quarters before Upwey/Tecoma pulled away to record a 17 point victory. The highlights of the game were Georgia and Keely playing their best games for the season and they will hopefully continue this form on for the rest of the season. With a continued focus on contested work at training the girls will be back on the winners list real soon.
Better players were Georgia, Keely, Sabrina, Olivia and Jazmyn.
Final score: Upwey /Tecoma 4.7.31 d Mitcham 2.2.14

Today we took on Ferntree Gully keen to put in a four-quarter performance after showing our true capabilities in patches last week. We welcomed a new team mate in Michael who performed well in his first match as a tiger, and it was an arm wrestle for the first 10 mins our tackling, blocking and one % were first class we just lacked a bit of polish moving forward and a bit of a concentration lapse saw us go in at quarter time by a bit. With no bench the boys started to tire a little later in the game but the endeavour shown out there today gave the coaches plenty to smile about because you never gave up and battled hard for each other all day. A few notable mentions
Dash- in and under all day worked tirelessly in the stoppages and your shepherding was brilliant
Julian- Never gave up, threw your weight around and provided a great target for the smaller guys. Really grew as a leader today also
Michael- First game and had the opposition jumping out of the way every time you went near it, great spark on ball and in the ruck
Max- 2nd and 3rd efforts with Dash were the best in the team today and your pressure and willingness to step up when your mates needed you was commendable.

Today we took on Upper Ferntree Gully at home on a fantastic day for footy. We went into this game with a big focus on playing to the team structures and have quick, clean ball movement around the ground. At the first bounce UFG showed a bit of spark and I thought we might be in for a contest. The mid field sensed this as well and kicked into gear and didn’t allow UFG to make an impact for pretty much the rest of the game. It was a brilliant show of force led by Fin, Pows, Tim and Jimmy. The ball use was good but at times a little erratic but our forwards worked extremely hard to keep the ball locked in until we scored. At the first break we switched a few things around and I put it on the half back line to be a bit more focused on their set up behind the ball to pick up any rushed kicks. As soon as they had the setup right UFG had no way out. It was great to watch. At the main break we had kept the opposition scoreless whilst we put on about 13 goals. It was good to also kick straighter this week than previous weeks. At the start of the third the on-slaught continued and the boys played extremely well, sticking to the team rules and playing great footy. UFG had no answers as we continued to pour on the goals as well as keeping them scoreless, which stayed that way to he end of the game. The whole team deserves a mention today as everyone played a part in the win today, but mentions do go to Jules, Pows, Stinger, Timmy, Jaydos, Jimmy N and Cam P for fantastic four quarter football.
Bye next week. Look forward to the break boys.
Go Tiges!!!!!
