A solitary goal was all that was needed for Brisbane Olympic Women, as they secured a hard fought 1-0 win over Sunshine Coast Fire Women at Goodwin Park on Saturday afternoon.
With little to separate the sides, both on the pitch and the table, it was a great finish from Olympic forward Eva Foran – finishing low into the bottom corner after just twelve minutes - that would prove to be the difference.
Despite being rooted to the bottom of the table, the Fire showed real attacking intent and were unlucky not to equalise on multiple occasions, with Jemima Head hitting the post in the first half.
Tegan Buhmann had a golden chance to square the teams up late on, but her shot flashed wide of the post.
Olympic’s vital 3 points is their first victory of the season, as they travel to play mid-table SWQ Thunder next week, while Sunshine Coast entertain fellow winless side Western Pride with a long-awaited win firmly in their sights.
