U15 U17 and U19 Teams Selected ahead of National Qualifiers

The U15 & U17 National Qualifying teams selected are for the National Qualifying games in Ashburton on May 19th & 26th.  The U19 National teams are selected for the BBNZ U19 Nationals over Queens Birthday.  The Metro & NC Mainland Squads are selected to train until final Mainland teams will be selected 2nd June to go to the Mainland tournaments July 8th – 10thFor more detailed information of program please refer to the Canterbury Basketball Academy Representative & Development Handbook.

 

U15 & U17 National Qualifying Teams (Waitaha)

For the National Qualifying teams, the national qualifying games will be used to determine which teams from the Canterbury region go to nationals (2 qualifying spots available) and will part of the selection process for the Basketball New Zealand National teams.  The national teams will be re-selected after the qualifying games including the possibility of selecting loan players from associations within Canterbury region who don’t qualify for Nationals.  The purpose of this is to allow the best 20 players from throughout the Canterbury region to represent at the BBNZ Nationals.   The national teams will be named by 2nd June after the qualifying games.

 

U19 National Teams (Canterbury Combined)

The U19 teams are Canterbury Combined teams representing the entire Canterbury Region (Metro, NC, Mid, Sth).  For this reason there will not be a qualifying process and they will immediately beginning preparing for BBNZ U19 Nationals over Queens Birthday.

 

U15 & U17 Mainland Development Squads (Metro & NC)

The Metro & NC Mainland Development Squads have been named to train & select the respective Mainland teams for the tournament from July 8th – 10th.  The squads will train before the Mainland teams are selected on June 2nd.  For each age group we will send Metro & NC teams however for the U17 girls age group we will send a combined Metro & NC team.  The purpose of the Mainland tournaments is to develop a large pool of players who could play for a National team in the future.

 

Costs & Gear

The costs for the national qualifying games will be minimal and we will ask parents to help with the transportation of the teams to Ashburton.  Confirmation of cost for the national qualifying games will be confirmed in coming week.  National & Mainland costs can be seen in the Canterbury Basketball Academy Rep & Development Handbook.  Uniforms will be provided to all teams & players will need to wear mouth guards.  For the national qualifying games players will be asked to wear a black t-shirt for the warmup’s.  Prior to nationals & mainland tournaments warmup gear will be made available for purchase.

 

Practices

Practice times & venues for national qualifying teams & mainland teams can be seen in the practice attachment.  Reserves are asked to attend their respective practice.  Due to the short build up for the national qualifying games it is important all players attend practice this Sunday are available for the training camp over weekend of May 13th & 14th.  Mainland squads will practice for the next 3 weeks before the Metro & NC teams are named by 2nd June.
