After three rounds and three good wins the Wycheproof-Narraport Demons lead the Goldacres North Central Football League ladder. The Demons recorded a winning margin in excess of one hundred points over the Saints to remain the only undefeated team in the competition. There was one bright light that shone out for the Saints with Nick Coghlan scoring all of the Saints goals to finish the day with nine goals, the highest individual tally so far this year. Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers got home by under a goal in their match against the Birchip-Watchem Bulls. The Tigers held a nineteen point lead at three quarter time but failed to kick a goal in the final quarter when the Bulls came at them hard but just could not overtake the Tigers to get the points. Even with the loss the Bulls remain in the top four and the win for the Tigers, their second win was not big enough to get them into the top four. Donald after suffering a loss to the Redbacks last week came out strong against Charlton slamming on seven first term goals. The Navies outscored the Royal Blues in the next two quarters but were unable to pull back the margin that Donald had set up in the opening term, Donald now moves into second place while the Navy Blues sit in an unusual position at the bottom of the ladder. In the final game Wedderburn led this game until midway through the third quarter but were out run in the final stages of the game by the Boort Magpies who went on to record a nineteen point win with Richard Tibbett kicking five goals for the Magpies.
Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers v Birchip-Watchem Bulls
In a fast start to the game the Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers got the better of the starts of the two sides and with some slick play it did not take them long to post the first of their six quarter goals. Birchip-Watchem managed just the one goal and at quarter time trailed the Tigers by twenty nine points. Doering and McInnes were presenting a focal point up forward for the Tigers and the centre bounce contest between Sirett and O’Sullivan was producing a good display of ruckwork from these talented two big men.
Birchip-Watchem turned the tables on the Tigers in the second term posting eight goals to the Tigers one goal to give the Bulls an eleven point lead at the main break. Lachie Foott was the key to the Bulls comeback with three goals for the quarter with Hallam, Ben Hogan and Jacob Christie making strong contributions for the Bulls.
As in the first term the Tigers would do the majority of the goal scoring in the third quarter as they regained the lead with a six goal to one term. Billy McInnes and Brad Collins made strong contributions towards the Tigers reclaiming the lead and took a nineteen point lead the final break. The Bulls could not buy a goal with all attempts being sent back by the Tigers backline.
The final term had the Bulls kicking to the scoring end but the could not do a repeat of their second term as they could only manage three goals for the quarter and it would not be enough to get them the lead and the Tigers who was unable to score a major was able to hang on to a five point lead at the final siren. On the day, one end favoured the majority of the scoring and the other end only having just three goals kicked to that end. The win to the Tigers will be a confidence booster and for the Bulls this was a loss they would have preferred not to have at this point of the year. Overall it was an entertaining game and both sides will improve in the coming weeks.
Better players for the Tigers: Luke Martin, Jake Nelson, Brad Collins, Ben Mahon, Ryan O’Sullivan and Kyle Brasser with Jordan Doering and Billy McInnes being the major goal kickers with four each.
Best for the Bulls: Charlie Hallam, Lochlan Sirett, Lachie Foott, Ben Hogan, Jacob Christie and Anthony Greaney. Lachie Foott was their leading goal kicker with five goals.
Final score Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers 13-10, 88 defeated Birchip-Watchem Bulls 13-5, 83
Wycheproof-Narraport Demons v St Arnaud Saints
The ladder leaders got out to a good start in their game against the St Arnaud Saints kicking five goals to one in the opening quarter. The Demons held twenty eight point lead at quarter time with their goals being shared around. At the other end the Saints was having difficulty in getting on the board and a turnover seen Nick Coghlan break the drought with their only major for the term.
In the second quarter the Saints made inroads to reducing the Demons lead as Nick Coghlan booted their three goals for the term. Midway through the quarter the Demons was able to break through to register three goals to again give them a lead of thirty points. Jones and Howgate were the goal scorers for the Demons in this term.
The Demons done a repeat of the two previous games and kicked a handy ten goals in the third term to blow the game well out of the Saints reach. Turner, Mead-Harding and James Coatsworth got in for their share of the spoils and the Saints again had Coghlan kicking their two goals for the quarter to bring his game tally to six with no other Saints player registering a major score. At the final break there was an eighty four point margin favouring the Demons.
Six further goals to the Demons again pull the goals scored above twenty goals as the finished off the game in fine style to remain undefeated. The Saints added three goals all kicked by Nick Coughlan who finished the day with all nine goals that were credited to the Saints. This was a great effort from this very talented forward who ended the day with nine goals one point for the game. The Demons had many good players on the day with special mentions going the way of George Turner, Chris Howgate, Ricky Allan, Connor Burge, Boe Bish and Jed Bish. Major goal kickers for the Demons were Corey Jones 4, Chris Howgate, George Tuner and Andrew Mead-Harding with 3 each.

Wedderburn Redbacks v Boort Magpies
Wedderburn was first on the board in their game against the Boort Magpies when full forward Adam Postle got the Redbacks away to a good start Robbie Tonkin kicked the Redbacks next goal midterm and Postle kicked his second to give the Redbacks a handy lead. Nearing the end of the first quarter Ben Gregg kicked the Magpies first goal with the magpies trailing by thirteen points at quarter time.
In a close game both sides was giving their best for the jumper and the Redbacks got an early break in the second term when Reiffel extended the Redbacks lead out to about twenty points. From this point Boort’s Richard Tibbett chimed in for the Magpies to post two goals to cut the margin back to around ten points the Boort’s Josh Shaw snapped a goal and there was less than a kick in the game. Crisp gave the Redbacks a little breathing space with a goal and right on the siren Tibbett kicked his third for the Magpies to again make the margin just three points as the sides exited the arena for the long break.
With just three points separating the two sides it didn’t take Boort long to hit the front when Tibbett marked strongly on two occasions to bring up major scores and give the Magpies the lead for the first time in the game. Wedderburn ruckman Jordan Hargreaves, who was having a great duel with Boort’s James Orr, put the Redbacks back within touch. Reiffel and Tonkin chimed in for goals for the Redbacks to reclaim the lead and back out to a ten points over the Magpies. As the quarter was nearing red time the Magpies raised one last effort and it turned out to be fruitful with Coach Corey Gregg and Kyle Manley goaling to give the magpies a four point lead with a quarter to go.
With the scores being fairly close at the start of the term the Magpies got the jump on the Redbacks when Corey Gregg goaled for the visitors. Hayden Polglase responded for the Redbacks but from here on the Magpies took control posting the next four goals to give them a good lead with time running out for the Redbacks. Josh Wild who had been down back for the majority of the game moved forward to kick the final goal of the game and reduce the Magpies back to nineteen points at the final bell.
Tibbett was named best for Boort with five goals and he had good support from Keiran Wilson, Ben and Corey Gregg, Brodie Leonard-Shannon and Rohan Nolan.
Better players for the Redbacks Danny Benaim, Jordan Hargreaves, Cam Perry, Robbie Tonkin, Darcy Jackson and Hayden Polglase with goals going to Adam Postle, Mark Reiffel and Robbie Tonkin kicking two each.
Final score Boort 14-7, 91 defeated Wedderburn 10-12, 72
Charlton Navy Blues v Donald Royal Blues
Donald made the trip to Charlton fully aware of the capabilities of the Navy Blues and was on full alert after going down to the Redbacks the week before.
Donald got away to a better start than the Navies as the slammed on seven first quarter goals to the Navies two. Seamus Young was back in form for the Donald side and would end the day with six goals. Aaron Walklate was leading from the front for the Navy Blues with Matt Vigus and Tom Finlay also doing their share.
In the second quarter Donald remained in control with four goals to Charlton’s three to hold a thirty two point lead at half time. Darcy Harrison continued his good form as did Werts and Coach Tom Bell for the Navies it was again their coach Aaron Walklate in the thick of things but his efforts in some cases was going unrewarded.
With a half to play and trailing by five goals the Navies needed to lift their workrate if they was going to reduce the Royal Blues lead and while the did outscore Donald in this term it wasn’t the result the wanted as they needed to be closer than twenty points heading into the final quarter. Donald only managed the one goal in this term and would be hoping that there lead would be enough to get them over the line with a quarter to go.
The final quarter only produced three goals between the two sides with Donald scoring two of those to Charlton’s one goal. There was sixteen goals kicked in the opening half of football and only seven after half time so the indications was that both sides was having difficulty in breaking through the defences of both sides. Donald would be happy to get their twenty nine point win over the Navy Blues but the lack of scoring in the second half of their games must be a concern. Seamus Young was Donald’s major goal kicker with six, Josh Potter and Anthony Raso both kicked two each. For Charlton Tom Finlay and Matt Giri got two goals each.
Better players named for the Donald side was Darcy Harrison, Jacob Werts, Tom Bell, Nathan Witherow, Darby Harrison and Jordan Bath.
Best for the Navies: Aaron Walklate, Mark Vigus, Tom Finlay, Sam O’Connor, Shaun Bowles and Ben Walklate.
Final score Donald 14-11, 95 defeated Charlton 9-12, 66
