Western Districts v Elliston
Roosters are on the road this week, heading to the Tigers Lair at Minnipa. Both of these teams have notched a win, and another here will go a long way to helping finals aspirations for one of them. Districts form probably not as bad as the scoreboard suggests last week, at three quarter time they were still in the match, but a devastating 11 goal to nil burst by the Hawks blew the match right out. On the other hand the Roosters showed signs of real form, seven goals from the evergreen veteran Rumbelow, and some of the slick ball movements of old. Adam Smyth a great recruit, Guy Hutchison winning the Joe Day ANZAC Medal, Del Miller in everything and Adam Hurrell dangerous. No Jay Williams as yet.
Much will be looked to Shannon Horgan and Scotty Feltus in the middle, Tom Lee in wonderful form, with Kirk Hull back home in sparkling also. Riley King in the best the first two weeks and Jack Shanley’s first game since joining from Bostons will be better for the run.
Elliston usually play well at this venue, not minding the smaller confines, and on paper look to have greater scoring avenues. The Districts boys often fall into a zone trap going forward, heading to the pockets too easily, which restricts their scoring. This will be an entertaining encounter with two well matched teams.
Tip – Roosters in a close one 10-20
Wudinna United v West Coast Hawks
The fast flowing Hawks on the road at the Magpie nest. Larger oval at Wudinna holds no spooks for the speedy Hawk machine, who are gaining a momentum. Aiden Whitford a lazy nine last week, and likely to add plenty more here, Dylan Kelsh high in the best and goals the first two weeks, the re emergence of Braden Holmes as a Hawk (who would have thought a few years ago?), coach Mark Dolling and Cameron Montgomerie loom large.
Maggies still have the services of Tyson Jackson prior to another off shore adventure, Tyson Tree, Remi North playing well last week against a Bulldog tide, and the hard ball winning ability of Matthew Greatbatch.
Hard to see the visitors dropping this one, and challenges for WU coach Darryl Marshall in matching up all the Hawks guns
Tip – Hawks by a margin 80-90
Wirrulla v Central Eyre
‘Dogs on the road this week, and started the season right where they left off last year. The Bombers struggling with the loss of good players in the off season and needing to hold tight here. Defending is not the Bombers natural game however, and many locals in the seeding winter crop process may see fitness a concern.
Bad kicking last week didn’t help the Bomber cause, and they still have some excellent talent at the club, Watson, Kozminski, Holmes, Henderson, Chester all seasoned classy performers. Mitchell Gum likely to play this week prior to heading back to college, so they will compete well in the ruck.
Where do you start with the Bulldogs? strength and run on every line, quality mid field, mean defence and highly productive forward line with so many options. Mc Kenna in ruck outstanding last week, the Fitzgerald brothers so hard to contain, Jakes Bruce and Sampson, Jordan Stutley a goal sneak and Tyler Chapman always dangerous. Could go through the side. Might be a hard lesson here for the Bombers as the ‘Dogs assert themselves on the competition.
Tip – Bulldogs 90+
