By: Lorcan MATHEWS
FRIDAY night lights sees a highly anticipated clash of the two Barwons in the opening Round 2 fixture of the GRFC Women’s Division 1 competition when Barwon Heads hosts Barwon SC at the Barwon Heads Village Park tonight.
Both sides will be keen to capitalise on their second chances after opening their respective seasons with heavy losses in their Round One matches. Barwon lost 1-5 to Surf Coast, while hot title contenders Drysdale SC thrashed Barwon Heads 7-2.
Surf Coast FC v Surfside Waves SC
SATURDAY sees an action-packed day of GRFC Women’s Division 1 action, kicking off at Banyul Reserve with Surf Coast looking to continue its impressive start to the season at home to Surfside Waves SC.
Surf Coast will be brimming with confidence, following its 5-1 hammering of Barwon SC last week, while Gina Murphy’s Waves recorded a convincing win themselves in a 3-0 victory over Geelong SC.
Deakin Ducks v Drysdale SC
A STATEMENT of intent from reigning champions Deakin last week, sees ‘the Ducks’ return home to Deakin University on Saturday afternoon to welcome Drysdale SC. Resurgent since the appointment of Craig Riley, Drysdale could force a significant upset, with both clubs recording confident wins in their opening fixtures. A huge game in prospect between two free-flowing attacking sides.
Geelong SC v Kardinia International College
KARDINIA will be looking to move on from a disappointing Round One fixture, with Ivan Kovacev’s side travelling to Stead Park on Saturday afternoon to face last year’s bottom placed Geelong SC.
Lube Jovanovski’s Geelong SC side will have their work cut out for them at home, while at the same time aiming to improve dramatically upon last season’s performance.
