AFL Victoria will showcase women’s football this weekend, as the AFL Victoria Southern Women’s Academy All Stars play the ADF All Stars in their traditional Anzac Day weekend match.
Entering its seventh year, some of the best up-and-coming female footballers from across the State will take to the field representing St Kilda at Etihad Stadium this Sunday, attempting to turn the tables on the ADF that has won the annual match the last four years, retaining the Anzac Cup.
The ADF All Stars, representing Army, Navy and Air Force, have won five of the last six clashes, and will face a St Kilda/Academy team - coached by Box Hill Hawks development league coach Andrew Shakespeare - keen to claim the Cup for the first time since 2012.
AFL Victoria Female Talent Manager Darren Flanigan said it is a great opportunity for those selected to play this weekend.
“It’s a great opportunity to recognise the contribution women make in the ADF and to celebrate women’s footy.”
The game will start at 12:45pm, as part of a double-header with St Kilda versus Geelong.
