Multi Talented McCahey Joins Hawks

With the Ringwood Hawks already having signed talented American guard Jacob Gibson, their final import spot become somewhat of a debate amongst the Coaches about what type of player the team would need to give them the best chance of winning another Championship.

“We sat down and made a list of the things that we thought were important.” Hawks Coach Ken Harrington explained. “A Good shooter, strong body, physical presence, needs to rebound, Play some defense, good passer. Yep the list was very long and where do you even start to look for a player like this?” Well, apparently, you find a player like this at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, the former college of the Hawks newest signing, 6’5 inch strongly built Forward Mike McCahey.

McCahey had what can only be described as a sensational College career finishing top 10 all time in many categories including most notably points (1751) and rebounds (750). As a senior he averaged close to 19 points per game and 7 rebounds and won a host of individual awards including the much coveted Student/Athlete of the year. He was also voted to countless all-star teams including NABC All District first team and NCAA East Regional All-Tournament team.

While the Hawks believe they have foundexactly the man they were looking for, McCahey describes his main strength as versatility. “I guess I am a Guard/Forward combo.” McCahey said. “Shooting from the perimeter is something I like to do but I can also post up which I did in College.”

The New York born McCahey is obviously fairly humble when describing himself but the Hawks newest star was quick to pay tribute to his family as he looks forward to embarking of a professional Basketball career. “Everyone in my family shares a passion for Basketball.” He said. “My Father and Brother played and I had a Basketball in my hand at an early age. They have all been a huge support.”

It will all start early February when McCahey will join his Hawks teammates for pre-season training which will lead up to the season tip off on the 18th March. “I have done my research and I know this is a successful Club I have been lucky enough to become a part of.” McCahey said. “I can’t wait to get there and get involved in the Community and enjoy the great things Australia has to offer.”
