The 2017 Peter Jackson VFL season kicked off with Port Melbourne defeating the Northern Blues by 29 points in a standalone match on Saturday.
The remaining six games of Round 1 will be played across the Easter long weekend.
PORT MELBOURNE 12.15 (87) d NORTHERN BLUES 8.10 (58)
A big crowd turned out at North Port Oval for Port Melbourne’s ‘Call to Arms’ Day and Borough champion Chris Cain’s 175th senior match – earning him VFL life membership. Port opened up a scrappy contest by kicking three unanswered goals in the second term to take a 22-point lead into half time, with 2015 ‘Frosty’ Miller Medallist Jordan Lisle then booting six second-half goals to ensure victory for the home team. In heavy rain, Cain capped his milestone game with a major of his own after the final siren.
