Premiers Belconnen United will be looking to get back on track following an unexpected defeat for them last weekend. Their 1-0 fall at Kambah wasn’t for lack of trying, with the Blue Devils having a number of chances but not able to finish on the day. With the full squad slowly returning to fitness, head coach Antoni Jagarinec will be confident of bouncing back at McKellar Park.

Belconnen’s opponents are Monaro Panthers, who after a confident win in Week 1, stumbled at home last weekend as they went down 4 – 1 to Canberra FC. Monaro opened the scoring in that match early on but were overrun as Canberra FC began to control the match and roll over the top. A tough clash awaits them this week

Canberra FC will host Canberra Olympic at Deakin Stadium looking for their second win in a row. After going down to Tuggeranong in Round 1, Mark Risteski’s side rebounded strongly against Monaro last weekend and have a squad slowly returning to fitness.

Olympic meanwhile suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Academy in Round 2, and will be looking for their first win of the season. None would be sweeter than against rivals Canberra FC but the visitors will need a disciplined, well-drilled display if they are to prove a strong test for last year’s grand finalists.

The Canberra United Academy will be aiming to continue their undefeated start to the campaign when they meet Gungahlin at Gungahlin Enclosed this Sunday after their big win over Canberra Olympic last weekend. Jasmine Genovesi scored seven in that outing and Gungahlin’s defence will need to be wary of the threat she poses. 

Likewise, Gungahlin’s Palombi sisters both got off the scoring mark for season 2017 last weekend in the 3-0 win over Woden-Wesotn and will be hungry to keep that up this time out. The Academy conceded early to Olympic last weekend seemingly due to a lack of concentration and Gungahlin will be ready to exploit any such lapses in this match.

The final match of the round sees Woden-Weston searching for their first points of the season as they host Tuggeranong United at Woden Park Enclosed. After keeping up with Gungahlin last weekend, Woden-Weston fell behind and from there Gungahlin pushed forward to seal the match. If the home side here can put together a full 90 minute display then they have every chance to take points of their visitors.

Tuggeranong made it two from two last against last season’s grand finalists last weekend when they knocked off Belconnen United at Kambah and they will be looking to take their perfect start into a third week here. Last weekend’s performance showed that they are just as happy to sit behind the ball and counter as they are to attack like their first week, and will most likely force the issue here in this match.
