SBL Review Round 6

The Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers Women’s Team powered to a flawless 9 wins 0 loss record with two wins on the weekend against the Rockingham Flames and the Wanneroo Wolves.

Against the Flames, the Tigers “stole” any chance of an upset by harassing the Rockingham ball carriers into coughing up 23 turnovers, many leading to easy fast break points, the Tigers winning 77 to 45. In Wanneroo, the Wolves failed to contain the shooting of Kate Malpass and Melissa Marsh, who finished the game with 23 and 21 points respectively. Congratulations to Dani Priestly who played her 50th game on the weekend, despite celebrating it with a rolled ankle!

The Men’s squad split the weekend fixtures, with a home loss against a strong Rockingham side and a thrilling away victory against Wanneroo.

Flames Import Chris Moore shot an amazing 8 from 9 three pointers to finish with 45 points in a display that ensured that the Tigers always had their hands full, and when desperation 3 pointers would not fall for the Tigers, they went down 111 to 124. With many of his guards sidelined by injury, Coach Simon Parker activated rookie Corey Craig who had a blinder of a debut against Wanneroo. Scoring 23 points, many of which in the crucial 4th quarter, Craig helped ensure Willetton enjoyed a vital away win, triumphing 97 to 93.

The Tigers Women now enjoy a week off with the Men travelling to Kalgoorlie to take on the Goldfields Giants.
