Former Milan Man In At Thunder

SWQ Thunder have unveiled former AC Milan defender Francesco Zanoncelli as the club's new head coach following the departure of Fernando Garcia.

Zanoncelli takes over following a decorated playing career, having made a handful of appearances for the Rossoneri before moving on to the likes of Ascoli, Cagliari and Genoa.

The former Italy U21 international replaces Garcia, who was only appointed to the position at the end of last season.

Strikers Add Talented Trio

Brisbane Strikers have moved to bolster their premiership defence by signing three new players to their senior squad for the remainder of the 2017 season.

Former Brisbane Olympic defender-midfielder Darren Gray, ex-FNQ FC Heat and Partick Thistle utility Ethan Docherty and Gold Coast City youth forward Fraser Eller have all reinforced Sean Lane’s thinning squad.

Star striker Rhys Meredith and young prospect Zayd Dennis have both suffered long-term injuries in recent weeks while defender Chris Maher has joined Flight Centre Premier League outfit Souths United.

Brisbane City Contribute To PHD Study

Brisbane City are supporting groundbreaking testing in the sports science of football.

City players are involved in developing a true-to-the-game experiment to test for players' ability to scan and be aware of their surroundings.

"We are hoping that down the line the findings of this study will help to shape training session design for senior and junior players alike," Technical Director Tom Laxton said.

Jets Bond Like A 'Brotherhood'

Moreton Bay United defender Jordan Loy believes a "brotherhood" is emerging among the Jets squad following their strong start to the season.

The 2015 double-winners have won three of their first five matches of the season and, with a game in hand, sit three points shy of leaders Gold Coast City.

"Being in the squad, you see the group and great team spirit. There’s a bit of a brotherhood here," Loy said.

Gold Coast City assistant coach Kristian Rees says his side’s resolve is evident this season ahead of this weekend’s clash with Northern Fury.

City came from behind on Tuesday night to earn a 1-1 away draw with reigning champions Redlands United, and will receive another boost this weekend with the return of suspended pair Jarrod Kyle and Eoghan Murphy.

"Mentally the boys are quite strong," Rees said. "They are up for the challenge if we come into a similar situation like that, but obviously you want to be ahead for the whole game."
