AFL Darling Downs today announced the fixture for the 2017 WESTPAC Women’s AFL Darling Downs season, which kicks off on April 22.
The season kicks off with the two-time reigning premiers, the Toowoomba Tigers taking on the Goondiwindi Hawks in a rematch of last years Grand-Final. With country rivals Dalby and South Burnett going head to head along with South Toowoomba against Lockyer-Warwick.
With the success of the recent AFLW and Brisbane Lions women’s teams, clubs have seen an increase in participation and registrations.
“It’s an exciting time for female football, with the WESTPAC Women’s AFLDD competition seeing increased interest and buzz, following the AFLW season,” Regional Manager for the AFL Jeff Neumann said.
“More and more, junior, youth and women across the region are wanting to be involved especially on the back on local talent Shaleise Law and Delissa Kimmince with the Brisbane Lions.
“Shaleise and Delissa, are inspiring plethora of new players and we are in the final stages of finalising our new junior girls pathway to compliment our already established youth girls and women’s pathway,” Neumann added.
Another newcomer to AFLDD is the naming rights sponsor WESTPAC Toowoomba, who will officially launch the new partnership next month.
