AFL Darling Downs today released the 2017 AFL Darling Downs Allied Pickford’s Premiership fixture, which kicks off on April 22 with three mouth-watering match ups.
Round 1 will see the traditional grand-final rematch as South Toowoomba host the reigning premiers University along with opening round action at Rockville Oval and Gold Park respectively.

Of the 45 home and away season games, 43 will play on a Saturday afternoon with two Friday night games at Heritage Oval, before a three week final series culminates in the Grand-Final on September 9. Two complete competition byes on May-27 for the representative and QAFL weekend along with August-19 bye between the home and away season and the start of the final series.
The May-27 weekend will include for the first time since 2011, a QAFL match between the Western Magpies and Surfers Paradise Demons. Adding to this day will be the regions City versus Country representative matches for the men’s and women’s competition.
Regional Manager for AFL Queensland, Jeff Neumann said the fixture is an exciting one for the restructured Allied Pickford’s Cup and everyone is counting down the days until the first bounce.
“It is an intriguing season, our restructure has seen our premier men’s competition reduced from 11-teams to 6 and from this we will see a very close competition,” Regional Manager for the Darling Downs, Jeff Neumann said.
“University Cougars are the bench-mark, the reigning premiers will be the hunted and the other five clubs will be looking at ways to stop them.
“To be honest, every club is a good chance of taking out the 2017 premiership,” Neumann added.
“University are the favourites but if pre-season whispers are anything to go by South Burnett and the Bombers are also close,” Neumann said on the premiership favourites for the Allied Pickford’s Cup.
