ALL EDFL TEAMS DARE TO DREAM WITH NEW EDFL LEAGUE
All clubs will dare to dream in this year. The new league in 2017 will appeal to the Ellinbank & District football romantics. It will pit a 10 team competition - not to dissimilar to what existed 25 years ago.
The fixture will consist of an 18 round season – therefore all teams will play each other on a home and away basis – eliminating the compromised draw of previous seasons. The top five teams in all grades will participate in the final series which will start on Saturday 26 August with the 2017 grand final to be played on Saturday 16 September. This season home and away football will not be played over the Easter and Queens Birthday weekends. The EDFL will not participate in the Interleague community championship this year therefore on 13 May we will have a standard home and away round instead of a bye.
This year AFL Victoria has introduced a salary cap throughout all leagues in the state. It is set at $80k for the EDFL clubs who must submit player contracts for paid players and an overall player payment report for the 2017 season. The Player Point System (PPS) introduced in 2016 will also continue this season with the point allocations per club very similar to those last year. AFL Vic has also released new Child Save Standards to support recent Victorian legislation changes and all clubs will have a responsibility to abide by them.
Pleased to announce the Board of Management have two new members Alan Massaro and Stephen Pratt. Both have vast experience with the league and will be tremendous acquisitions. I would also like to welcome John Allsop another person with plenty of administration skills and former Nyora player who has come aboard as an assistant secretary to support Ken Moore.
Over recent months the board have been working closely with AFL Gippsland on a transition plan to join the Regional Assistance Centre (RAC) in 2018 and will continue to do so in the upcoming months.
Finally I would like to offer EDNA and the GUA all the best for what shapes as an exciting season.
