AFL Victoria Chief Executive Officer Peter Schwab has welcomed $10 million in funding for VFL grounds from the State Government.
“AFL Victoria is very appreciative of the State Government’s support in providing this funding for Victorian football in this our 150th year,” Schwab said at Box Hill today.
“Certainly, this $10 million from the government today is a significant injection of funds into Victorian football.
“As Victorian football’s governing body, it will only strengthen the VFL and TAC Cup and provide enhanced community facilities.”
In recent times, AFL Victoria, in partnership with the AFL, local councils and VFL clubs, has provided the upkeep of these facilities.
“When the restructure of the VFL took place in 2000, we undertook several steps to upgrade each club’s facility to the required level and this will help us continue this process,” Schwab said.
“Without this funding, the clubs would not be able to achieve the desired outcomes for the long-term sustainability of their facilities.”
AFL Victoria will meet with the State Government on Friday to finalise the allocation of $10 million in funding. Post these discussions, a press release detailing individual club projects will be issued.
Tomorrow at 11.25am at Point Gellibrand Oval, Sports Minister James Merlino will make an announcement concerning Williamstown Football Club.
