NEWS: Defibrillators vital for all football clubs throughout Geelong region
A MYRIAD of Geelong sporting clubs, including all football (soccer) clubs are being encouraged to apply for defibrillators, in a strong effort to save the lives of players, volunteers and spectators alike who may suffer a sudden cardiac arrest at their grounds.
Applications for the third round of the $2.7 million Defibrillators for Sporting Clubs and Facilities Program are now open, as the Andrews Labor Government continues its roll-out of over 1000 live-saving defibrillators to both clubs and facilities throughout the state of Victoria.
Defibrillators were most notably used critically in the live-saving actions of paramedics and doctors to revive former Bolton Wanderers captain Fabrice Muamba who suffered a heart-attack while playing against Tottenham at White-Heart Lane in March 2012.
With just over 400 training packages and defibrillators available, Geelong clubs are urged to act in keeping their players and spectators safe, while also serving the community, with the use of public defibrillators for cardiac arrest soaring from 2.8 percent in 2007 to over 11 percent in 2016.
Sporting clubs throughout Geelong and Victoria have until May 3rd 2017 to apply and those clubs who already own a defibrillator are encouraged to register them in alliance with Ambulance Victoria.
