THE revamped 8-team GRFC Women’s Division 1 competition will kick off an exciting new season on Friday April 21 under lights, as Surfside Waves play host to Geelong SC, who will be hoping to dramatically improve on a disappointing 2016 season, which resulted in just one win.

The following day, Saturday April 22, sees reigning champions Deakin Ducks host Kardinia College at their $8 million dollar Waurn Ponds elite sporting facility, a great opportunity for the Ducks to open their 2017 campaign in style in front of their home support on an immaculate synthetic pitch.
After running away with the regular season title, winning all their fixtures bar one draw, Deakin will be aiming for consecutive titles, with a strong squad likely to again be assembled. Kardinia, on the other hand, will be keen to regain its mantle of the leading Women’s club in the local competition.
Last season’s Division 1 runners up Drysdale SC will look to begin its 2017 season strongly at home to newly promoted outfit Barwon Heads at Howard Glover Reserve, while Barwon SC cap off the opening round fixtures with a home meeting against another newly promoted side, Surf Coast FC.
