Round 3 WOMEN- Bianca Abbott (Gold Coast Gliders)

Bianca Abbott of the Gold Coast Gliders collects the Player of the Week Award in Round 3 after posting a huge ‘double-double’ against the Suns on the weekend.  Abbott played a leading role in the 07/08 Townsville Fire WNBL season, before joining the Gliders where her presence has been felt from the get-go.  Playing the position of Forward/Centre, Abbott’s height gives her an edge in defense, however she has quickly showcased her offensive strength this year, with a 19pt, 14rb average in 2008.  She hit 28pts @ 58% from the field in Round 3, with all the work being done within close range and amongst heavy traffic, with a massive 23rbs added in for good measure.

Two other efforts were as notable in Round 3; with Rebecca Haynes of the Logan Thunder hitting 28pts @ 70% from the field, with 12 of 14 from the line, 12rbs, 5asts, 3stls to see this Logan squad continue to soar; and Kelly Wilson of the Mackay Meteorettes in dominating form showing she is a top pick in all categories in ’08 with 35pts, 5rbs, 4asts, 4stls to help the team steamroll Ipswich (76-57).

Elsewhere, Shannon Proffit of the Clippers is on the up-and-up and managed 13pts, 17rbs, 2asts and 5stls against the Cyclones and Melissa Tape of the Mountaineers showing that team work is all important with 18pts, 8rbs, 10asts and 3stls- another close ‘triple-double’ shave.
