What is Getting Started in Coaching?
The Getting Started in Coaching course is a KiwiSport funded, generic entry level course for beginner coaches and/or people who are considering getting into coaching. The non-sport specific course covers the basics of coaching with the aim of providing an insight to what is involved.
Why?
The aim of the course is to give attendees a number of ‘tools’ to build their coaching confidence and will equip the coach with the skills to provide a positive experience for children to learn fundamental skills and ensure ongoing participation in sport.
What's involved?
The course is 2 hours and is practical and interactive, focusing on the generic aspects of coaching:
- Understanding the athlete & athlete centered coaching
- Planning a session
- Coaching a skill
- Behavior management
More information about the course (including a video) is available on the Sport Wellington website http://www.sportwellington.org.nz/getting-started-in-coaching-gelcc/
Is there a cost?
The Getting Started in Coaching Course is FREE to all attendees.
Benefits for your sport include….
- Encourage more volunteers into coaching by supporting their development.
- Ensure positive experiences for athletes through qualified and confident coaches.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
