NEWS: GRFC Rep Squads urgently seeking U14 and U16 Girls
THE GEELONG Region Country Championships representative squad is urgently seeking more U14 and U16 female players to top up their existing squads due to a number of last minute withdrawals.
At least eight players are needed – ideally for the U14 and U16 age groups. There are currently 20 players registered for the Girls’ U12s team, which will eventually be whittled down to a final squad of 16 players.
But it’s the U14 and U16 age groups that have been mostly affected.
The Geelong region fielded just three Boys’ teams last year in Bendigo – the first time in more than three years that Geelong had rep teams at the annual Country Championships carnival. This year, a total of seven Boys’ teams and three Girls’ teams were set to be sent to the Championships in Gippsland on the Queens’ Birthday weekend in June.
Unfortunately, twelve girls have withdrawn from the two older age groups over the past month, so there are now opportunities for players to represent their region.
There are cots associated with the weekend ($285) but the U16's team have confirmed a kit sponsor which will bring the costs down to $185 (U16's only).
