The U/16 Country Championships begin in Townsville over the weekend with Capricornia confident of achieving a good result. The side has been training together for the past six weeks with training sessions held in Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mt Larcom. The side was picked last weekend with an even number of players representing the club throughout the region. The coach of the U/16 side Don Pollock is looking to use the sides speed and discipline over the weekend to get the wins on the board. The side has an even mixture of both experience and youth and will be lead by a leadership group consisting of key players Daniel Hunt, Darcy Payne, Ethan Rose, Daniel Clay and Luke Lambart. Luke Lambart will have to lead from the sidelines this year after breaking his foot at club football in round one. Jacob Mills, a Lion’s Academy member will look to be a key forward in the absence of Luke.
Capricornia will also be looking to get a number of players picked in the Queensland Country Kookaburra’s side for the State Championships held in the Brisbane North on the 1st, 3rd and 5th of May.
