Fretwell Park was alive on Saturday afternoon, with the balcony overlooking the ground a sea of red and white as South Cairns Cutters defeated Centrals Trinity Beach by 70 points.
South Cairns led at every change and unleashed a prominent forward line with new recurit and 2006 Victorian Country Representative Marcus McMillian leading the charge with six goals, Steve Shaw with five and Patrick Rattray with three.
South Cairns, with double scoring attempts, could have, and maybe should have, beaten the Bulldogs by much more.
Coach Steve Daniel, whilst happy with the performance, was dissappointed with his teams kicking.
Centrals Trinity Beach, with some recruits still to arrive at the beaches, had solid contributors in Joel Kreek, Heath Barnard and Cameron Bartlett. Kreek and Barnard finished with three goals each and Bartlett two.
The poor kicking from the Cutters kept Centrals in the match until the third quarter when Souths began to surge away. At three-quarter time the margin was 41 points and the bous in red, green and white kicked on from there.
In his second year at the helm, Centrals coach Glen Coghlan was disappointed in his players performance and asked that his Senior players stand up and be counted.
South Cairns now meet with Cairns Saints, who were comfortable victors over reigning Premiers Manunda Hawks, who take on Centrals Trinity Beach, with both teams seeking their first 4 points.
