NEWS: Surf Coast and Barwon seeking more female players to make multiple teams
WOMEN'S football is in the midst of a major boom in Geelong, ahead of the second season of the WNPL Victoria which kicks off this weekend and features gun Geelong outfit Galaxy United.

The Torquay based club made it all the way to the Grand Final last year and although beaten by Calder United, Vince Ierrardo's women will be keen to go one step better in 2017.
Galaxy launches its 2017 campaign tomorrow at home to Heidelberg United at Banyul Warri Reserve. Kick-off is at 4pm.
Meanwhile, the number of females playing the game locally is set to explode through the roof, with the start of the new GRFC season still another two months away.
This year will see the creation of a new Girls' U12 competition, whilst last year's U14s league has graduated to the U15 category.
The Women's Division One league, which last year numbered just six teams is set to expand to at least eight teams, while the 10 team Division Two competition is again expected to number at least 10 teams with the addition of a couple of new teams.
One of those new teams is expected to be a second Surf Coast FC outfit.
After the success of last season Surf Coast FC will be entering two women's teams into the local competitions, Division 1 and Division 2.
The Banyul Warri based club has had many players (older, young, returning after a long break or never played before!) put on their boots and giving it a go.
Because of this, the Coasters are now looking for a game day coach for the Division 2 side. Training will still take place with Head Coach Mariela Pocklington, who will coach the Division 1 side on match day and provide assistance and support to the game day coach for the Div 2 side.

Remuneration dependent on qualifications, Surf Coast Football Club pays for coaching courses for all active coaches at Surf Coast Football Club.
Meanwhile, with just eight weeks left before the GRFC season starts, the Barwon Soccer Club Under 15 girls are about eight players short of making a stand alone second team.
Last year's U14 Girls' competition numbered 10 teams, so it is expected that this year's U15's league will be thereabouts and possibly see a couple more entries.
"If you have any friends or friends with daughters born between 2002 to 2005 interested in playing, please drag them kicking and screaming along to training so we can build a great squad," urged the Club's U15 coach Leonie Smith on Barwon SC's offcial Facebook page this week.
