Cahill Park Gatton hosted two thrilling games of AFL on Saturday with the Lockyer Valley Demons welcoming both Ipswich Eagles and Collingwood Park.
Game 1 saw the Demons pitted against an Ipswich Eagles squad in the extreme 38 degrees both teams played a thriller with the final score reading Demons 6-4-40 to Eagles 5.7.37.
Lockyer Valley controlled the game from the start leading at all changes but the eagles put up one all mighty fightback in the last quarter getting to within 3 points with 38 seconds remaining. A Demons centre clearance saw the ball at a stale mate in their pocket when the final siren blew handing the Demons a perfect start to season 2017.
The heat played a major factor in this game with both coaches agreeing to shorten the last half due to player’s welfare.
Game 2 saw a 2nd Eagles squad take on Collingwood Park just as the cool change hit and what a game of top class football it was The power were quick out the boxes putting on 2 goals before a Eagles player had touched the ball but to the Eagles credit they re-grouped and starting becoming a major factor in the game.
The Power went into the sheds at half time leading by 28 points jumped out to 36 point half way through the 3rd until the eagles stepped up a gear piling on 8 unanswered goals The last quarter was back and forward and when the siren blew the final score read Eagles 16-12-108 power 15-18-108.
In all a great day which could only be described as win for AFL.
