Season Preview: Floreat Athena
Football West News
After a memorable appearance against Melbourne City in the Westfield FFA Cup last season and finishing fourth in the NPLWA, Floreat Athena will aim to write another exciting chapter in the club’s history.
With quality through the ranks, coach Glen Grostate will aim to get even more out of his players in a tough-to-tip competition.
He knows to expect a great deal from captain Ludo Boi and the likes of Kris Gate, Lewis McMahon, Bobby Wilson and Dean Evans.
“We’re quite even around the board and the key players are the spine of the team,” he said.
“Ludo is somebody that everyone respects and has looked up to for a while, being the player he is. He’s been the club captain for over three years now, so I didn’t change anything when I came in because I felt how he plays is how you want a leader to play.”
Grostate said consistency would be the key to his side’s success.
“We want to be able to play decent football, week in, week out,” he said. “I don’t worry about what’s going on in any other teams. I have to look after my own camp before anything else.”
However, he expects Inglewood United and Bayswater City to be the teams to beat this season.
“Both of those teams recruited the most advanced senior players so considering the squads they have, they should be up there at the end of the season,” he said.
“We obviously haven’t gone out and recruited as many players as other teams, so we expect to be challenged this season.”
Floreat will take on Stirling on Friday in the first game of the PS4 NPL WA season.
