The 2008 WRFL season will begin under light at Kings Park on Friday April 4th. St. Albans will host traditional rivals Albion in the first night game for points in the 77-year history of the competition.
The Saints are coached by former Footscray player Steven Kolyniuk while Albion (The Cats) playing coach is Steve Zavalas.
The two clubs have produced some of the most talked about games in the league history and used to play for â~The Goat HerderâTMs CupâTM
The game begins at 7.30 and there will be no reserves game beforehand.
League CEO John Batty sees this as another great moment for football as it celebrates its 150th birthday " I congratulate the two clubs on
this initiative, anything that promotes the game of football in the west is good for the competition. Last year we were the only metropolitan
league to start on time and this year we are starting ahead of our proposed date. The St.Albans Football Club committee worked long and
hard to get the lights in and it will now pay dividends. The Brimbank Council has also been great supporters through the process. What a
great way to start the 2008 WRFL season
