NEWS: FC Leopold ready to hit the ground running in its debut season

FLEDGLING new football club FC Leopold will hit the ground running in its debut season in 2017 by fielding at least two Men’s Senior teams, a Women‘s Senior team as well as multiple junior teams ranging from U7s right up to U13s.

The new club, which will be based at Estuary Estate on the southern outskirts of the outer eastern Geelong suburb, is confident that it will exceed expectations in its inaugural season and hope to field a third Men’s team in the local GRFC competition.

“At this stage we are looking likely to have two seniors men's teams and we are reasonably close to a third, which we will continue working towards,” explained club president Mitch Vials.

“We need probably five more players to secure a third Men’s team and we are still working on getting a senior Women's team up and running. We ran a clinic prior to the New Year and had eight females attend. We will run additional sessions this month and into the future to hopefully attract more interest.

“With regards to the Juniors, we had some great success with our junior clinics which we ran at Leopold Primary School last year. Over the three sessions, we had an average of about 50-60 children attend. We will be looking to organise more junior clinics in February prior to the new season starting and will be providing some information regarding registration/training around about the same time,” said Vials.

The fledgling new club appears to not only be booming on the field, but off it as well with the announcement of several significant sponsorship deals.

“We have managed to get some major sponsors officially signed up such as the Bendigo Bank (Leopold Community Branch), TAT Tiling, Leopold Sportsman’s Club and Australian Essential Services Compliance,” revealed Vials.

“Their support is going to be of massive assistance to the club as we get things up and running.

“Added to that, we have a partnership set up with Leopold Primary School, which will mean that we will be able to use the school’s facilities for training and will also be able to share equipment. Again, this is going to be a massive help for us, whilst we get started,” concluded Vials excitedly, ahead of what is shaping up to be another record breaking winter football season for the Geelong region.
