In a historic meeting of both football and netball clubs last week both sets of delegates have given the green light for the GVFL and GVNL to instigate the integration of both entities.
The meeting was held following the distribution of a Discussion Paper to both football and netball delegates in December outlining a proposal and a path forward.
Both the GVNL and GVFL delegates will vote on the new structure at separate Special General Meetings to be held on Wednesday 15 February.
GVFL Chairman David Roff views the integration as an obvious step in progressing both sports.
“The integration of football and netball as one entity has been a talking point at Board level over the past few years” he said.
“Our clubs are football and netball focused and for the betterment of both sports we feel that coming together will only make us both stronger and make it easier for club administrators and volunteers.”
“We also see a shared vision, a greater opportunity for input from both sides of the League in key decisions as well as streamlining and improving the delegates structure for the benefit of our members.”
“Its an exciting time and I am really encouraged by the feedback from clubs as we move towards the historical vote and the roll out for this season.”
GVNL President Jacqui Hudgson sees the integration as a great outcome for netball in the Goulburn Valley.
“The GVNL has been working with the GVFL especially over the past 12 months to improve and maintain communication on all areas in preparation for a smooth transition when the time was right to think about amalgamating the two leagues” she said.
“Our first step in the process was to integrate our administration with the office and this subsequently saw the appointment of Josie Logan as the Netball Administration Officer on a part time basis.”
“A number of important discussions and meetings will need to take place over the next six months should the clubs vote for the integration of the two leagues to ensure all facets and profiles of Netball are adequately met by those on the board.”
Key features of the proposal to clubs:
- The GVNL will be wound up as an organisation
- The GVFL Board currently has a vacancy so will be expanded from seven to nine until the AGM to be held after the 2018 season. The current vacancy and the two extra places will be filled via nominations from clubs
- The League will be rebranded as the Goulburn Valley League with communications and collaterals to reflect the new identity
- A delegates structure will be put in place with a unified agenda involving football and netball
