We have been contacted by the AFLQ initially to see if we have Masters players in the Sunshine Coast to Bundaberg region interested in Umpiring . I have included below the body of the email.
Nick Liparota from AFLQ is offering an umpiring education course for all players who would like to get involved . From experience this has area has been an issue for Masters for a long time and if we can improve our standards in this area I'm sure all players and officials will benefit on match days which can only enhance the experience .
Please contact Glenn Phillips ( Sparrow ) on 0417 750 844 or email glennphillips3@bigpond.com to register your interest and he will co-ordinate all correspondence. Ideally we would like all Clubs represented with accredited Umpires .
"My name is Nick Liparota and I am the Community Umpire Development manager for AFL Queensland.
The reason for my email to see if you would be able to contact any of your masters players to see if they would like to get involved in umpiring AFL games around the Sunshine Coast to Bundaberg area.
To give you a little background information, currently AFL Queensland is in the process of combining the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay Football leagues into one and then servicing this area with AFL Queensland Umpires. (currently these games are umpired by club umpires.) However, in saying this the umpiring numbers in this area are extremely short and this is why we are branching out to ex-players and competitions such as yourself to see if we can work in and around your competition to see if there is anyone who is interested in umpiring.
Umpiring is a great way of staying fit and involved in the game. Its challenging and more importantly it is very rewarding. Especially in this area. The players will thrive in having umpires involved in their games and should see the level of football grow to a great level by having officials involved. And of course all umpires will be paid for their services. AFL Queensland will also supply umpires with a uniform which is theirs to keep, as well as weekly coaching and training sessions if they are wanting to develop their skills as umpires".
